  • Remembrance Day

    Friday 11th November is recognised as Remembrance Day. This day honours those who served to defend our democratic freedom. Pupils in Key Stage 1 have been learning about Remembrance Day by finger-painting poppies. They also learned about the importance of remembering all the fallen soldiers who have allowed us to live in peace because of their bravery.

  • “Let’s Celebrate”

    This term the Nursery children took part in a variety of activities to learn about different festivals and celebrations around the world. These include celebrations such as Diwali and Remembrance Day. For Diwali celebrations, children engaged in creating Diya lamps using paper and paint and colouring rangoli patterns. We introduced a book about the meaning of Diwali, and the story of Rama and Sita. Our children were also able to speak about their celebrations at home.

  • Stay & Read

    Reading is one of the top priorities for us at Brookside. Our pupils are given a range of opportunities to engage in reading throughout the day. To develop a passion and love for reading within the home, our parents, guardians and carers were invited to a ‘Stay and Read Workshop’. Parents, Guardians and Carers were engaged in tips on how to read with their child, and to properly complete the reading record.

    Parents, Guaridans and Carers also engaged in age related tips on questioning, and reading comprehension skills. We look forward to continued support from our parents to our Stay and Read activities throughout the course of the academic year.

  • Year 2 Trips!

    On Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th October, Year 2 went on walks to explore Hayes Town and the Uxbridge High Street. This was to enhance their understanding of the current Geography topic ‘Uxbridge, here I come’. The children were given the opportunity to identify the different physical and human features in both locations such as vegetation, parks, canal, buildings, offices and houses.

    They also examined the local shops and businesses and identified which goods and services they provide. Year 2 had a fantastic time learning about their local community and neighbouring areas. Well done Year 2!
